Mae Telynor Cymru 2016 yn dathlu 200 mlwyddiant geni John Roberts 'Telynor Cymru' (1816-1894), un o'r ffigurau pwysicaf yn ein traddodiad gwerin. John Roberts Sipsi Cymreig oedd John ac roedd yn enwog yn y 19eg ganrif am chwarae'r Delyn Deires Gymreig. Telyn Werin Cymru Y delyn yw'r unig agwedd ddi-dor o'n traddodiad offerynnol gwerin, ac eto, hi yw'r offeryn lleiaf amlwg ar sîn werin Cymru heddiw. Mae'r byd telyn Gymreig yn ffafrio'r drefn glasurol ryngwladol yn lle. Teimla Clera yn gryf bod rhaid gywirio'r sefyllfa |

Telynor Cymru 2016 celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of John Roberts (1816-1894), 'Telynor Cymru', one of the most important figures in our folk tradition. John Roberts John was a Welsh Gypsy who was famous in the 19th century for playing the Welsh Triple Harp. The Welsh Folk Harp The harp is the only aspect of our continuous instrumental folk tradition, and yet it is the least prominent instrument on the Welsh folk scene today. The Welsh harp world favours the international classical regime instead, and Clera feels strongly that we must correct this. |
Trysor y Sipsiwn Trosglwyddwyd trysor cerddoriaeth delyn y Sipsiwn Cymreig drwy chwe chenhedlaeth o deulu John Roberts i'w or-wyres Eldra Jarman, a thrwyddi hi i Robin Huw Bowen.. |
The Gypsies' treasure The treasure of the Harp music was passed down through six generations of the Roberts family from John to his great-grand-daughter Eldra Jarman, and through her to Robin Huw Bowen. |
|
Robin Huw Bowen Pan fu'n ymweld â gwlad Paraguay yn 2013 i chwarae yn Festival Mundial del Arpa en el Paraguay, gwelodd Robin wlad lle mae traddodiad werin ei Hofferyn Genedlaethol yn fywiog iawn. Yng Nghymru, y delyn yw'r unig agwedd ddi-dor o'n traddodiad offerynnol gwerin, ac eto, hi yw'r offeryn lleiaf amlwg ar sîn werin Cymru heddiw; anelwn at gywiro hyn drwy'r prosiect. |

Robin Huw Bowen When he visited Paraguay in 2013 to play in the Festival Mundial del Arpa en el Paraguay, he saw a country where the folk tradition of its National Instrument was very lively. In Wales, only the harp can claim to have an unbroken instrumental folk tradition, yet it is the least prominent instrument on the Welsh folk scene today; we aim to rectify this through this project. |
Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru Buom yn llwyddiannus yn ein cais am gefnogaeth ariannol gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ac dyma gychwyn ar y gwaith. Mae'r grant wedi galluogi i ni drefni safle we ar gyfer yr ymgyrch: www.telynor.cymru a bydd newyddion amdano ar www.clera.org a www.sesiwn.com |

The Arts Council of Wales We were successful in our application for financial support from the Arts Council of Wales and we are now starting on the work. This funding has enabled us to develop a Web site specifically for the project: www.telynor.cymru and news the development will be posted on www.clera.org and www.sesiwn.com. |
Pam mae angen y prosiect? Gwnaeth ymweliad Womex â Chaerdydd y llynedd les mawr i godi proffeil canu traddodiadol ac i newid agwedd y sector i werthfawrogi potensial ein traddodiad i gyffroi pobl lawn gymaint ag adrannau eraill y celfyddydau. Mae diffyg hyder ac anwybodaeth yn rhy aml yn amlygu eu hunain ar y sîn Gymreig, ac yn peri i ormod o berfformwyr gredu 'nad iddyn nhw' y mae'r pethau hyn, am ba reswm bynnag. Mae 'na amharodrwydd yn y byd clasurol i dderbyn repertoire ac arddull werin o ddifrif, ac mae'r telynorion gwerin yn aml gydag agwedd rhy amaturaidd ac yn ofni'r her o chwarae repertoire mwy soffistigedig. Ymgais felly yw'r prosiect yma i geisio datblygu hyder yn y repertoire ac yn y gallu i'w berfformio, ac yna, broffesiynoldeb wrth ei gyflwyno, yn union fel y gwelwyd traddodiadau eraill yn gwneud yn ystod Womex. |

Why do we need the project? The visit of Womex to Cardiff in 2013 brought great benefit in raising the profile of traditional music and changing attitudes towards the sector, recognising the potential that our tradition has to excite people as much as other departments of the arts. Lack of confidence and ignorance are too often associated with the Welsh scene, and lead too many performers to believe 'that these things are not for them', for whatever reason. There's a reluctance in the classical world to take the folk style and repertoire seriously, and the folk harpists too often have an amateurish attitude and fear the challenge of playing a more sophisticated repertoire. So this project is an attempt to try to build confidence in the repertoire and the ability to perform, resulting in professionalism in presenting it, just as seen in other traditions do during Womex. |
Ein Cynllun
Ein cynllun yw i roi gwersi dros Gymru i chwarae ym modd y Sipsi yn ystod 2015, dan arweiniad Robin, gyda'r nod o berfformio cyngherddau'n genedlaethol ar draws Gymru yn 2016 i ddathlu dauganmlwyddiant John Roberts. Bydd grwpiau telynorion ar draws Gymru yn dysgu dull chwarae'r Sipsi, drwy'r glust, i ganu'n halawon traddodiadol ar y delyn. Bydd ein gwefan yn cyflwyno gwybodaeth diweddar am y prosiect a bydd adran wedi'i neulltio dim ond ar gyfer disgyblion y prosiect i gefnogi ac i ategu'r gwersi lleol. Bydd nodiant alawon hefyd ar gael, cyngor a gwybodaeth perthnasol i'r disgyblion. |
Our Plan Our plan is to give lessons across Wales during 2015, under Robin's leadership, to play the Gypsy way with the aim of performing concerts nationally across Wales in 2016 to celebrate the bicentenary of John Roberts. Harp groups across Wales will learn to play traditional melodies on the harp by ear, the Gypsy learning method. Our website will present the latest information about the project with a section to support and supplement the local lessons reserved for pupils of the project. Notation for tunes will also be available, as well as relevant information and advice to pupils. |

Y gwaith hyd yn hyn Mae Robin wedi recordio fideos hyfforddi ar gyfer wefan www.telynor.cymru . Rydym eisoes wedi rhedeg dau ddosbarth i brofi effeithrwydd y modd yma o gyflwyno, wedi'i seilio ar y gweithdai y mae Clera wedi rhedeg dros y blynyddoedd. Byddwn yn cynnal llawer o weithdai dros Gymru yn ystod y flwyddyn i roi'r cyfle i delynorion ddysgu'r grefft. |
Progress to date Robin has recorded training videos for the www.telynor.cymru website We have already run two classes to test our method, based on the workshops that Clera has run over the years. We shall conduct many workshops across Wales during the year to give harpists the opportunity to learn the craft. |
